Police nabbed miscreant attempting to sell stolen handset in Siliguri

Siliguri, 01st April: An incident of theft surfaced from an area under Ward No. 23 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) where miscreant fled with a mobile phone from a residence early on Sunday morning.


Significantly, the police arrested the thief within 24 hours of the theft and recovered the stolen handset. The arrested accused has been identified as Ranjit Mandal (35), a resident of Binoy More in Siliguri.

Earlier, a written complaint was immediately lodged in the Siliguri police station following the incident. Based on the complaint, the cops of Siliguri police station initiated an investigation and solved the theft case.


As per police sources, the accused Ranjit broke into a residence under the said ward taking advantage of the sleeping inmates, and fled with a mobile phone. Subsequently, at night, he arrived at Bagrakote area to sell the stolen mobile phone.

Acting on a tip-off information, the under cover police of Siliguri police station arrested the accused from Bagrakote bus stand area. Additionally, the police also recovered the stolen phone. On Monday, the accused has been produced before the Siliguri court while further investigation is underway.
