Police launch drive to curb liquor consumption in the Gulma River area

Siliguri, 07th April: On Sunday, the police officials conducted a campaign near the Gulma River area under the leadership of the Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Pradhan Nagar Police Station. Reportedly, the police team maintained vigilance against those consuming alcohol during picnics in the area.


It is to be noted that every Sunday, a crowd of people gather in the Gulma area for picnics, during which alcohol consumption is rampant. Allegations suggest that during these gatherings, intoxicated individuals lead to incidents of harassment and violence against women.

In view of these incidents, the IC of Pradhan Nagar Police Station launched a campaign in the area with a team of police personnel. Subsequently, action was taken against those consuming alcohol under the guise of a picnic. During this operation, police officers also destroyed the bottles of liquor while the intoxicated individuals were warned and then released.
