Siliguri, 15th May: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police has carried out a major anti-narcotics operation, arresting three drug traffickers in two separate cases within 24 hours of forming a special Anti-Narcotics Task Force.
According to police, in the Bagdogra police station area near Singijhora More, officers intercepted a truck and recovered 510 kg of poppy husk. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹10 lakh. Two persons, identified as driver Gaurav Kumar Yadav (22) and handyman Suman Uddin Laskar (36), were arrested in connection with the case. Police said neither of them had valid documentation for the consignment, which was allegedly being transported to Delhi.
In a separate operation in the Matigara police station area, police conducted a raid based on specific intelligence and arrested an accused identified as Gaurang Barman. Officers recovered 54 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed termed the operation a significant success, adding that the newly formed Anti-Narcotics Task Force will intensify its campaign against drug trafficking in the city. All three accused have been booked under the NDPS Act and produced before court. Police have also begun probing the wider network linked to the cases.
