Police and army personnel defused banned firecrackers on banks of Mahananda River

Siliguri, 14th December: On Thursday, the army personnel and the cops of New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station defused a large quantity of banned firecrackers on the banks of Mahananda River, adjacent to Naukaghat. Lieutenant Colonel B Mitra of the army, SI Gautam Laskar of NJP police station, and other officers were present.


According to reports, the NJP police station seized about 10 tonnes of banned firecrackers this year. Despite the ban on firecrackers across the country, several businessmen are secretly involved in the business.

Later, the court directed to deactivate the seized firecrackers. Acting upon the orders, on this day, the firecrackers were defused on the Mahananda River with the help of the army. During the process, fire department personnel were present at the spot.
