PM Modi sent virtual puja greetings to the people of West Bengal

Siliguri, 22nd October: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the people of West Bengal on the occasion of Maha Sashti, which marks the beginning of Durga Puja, the biggest festival in the state.


Beginning his speech, PM Modi addressed the people in Bengali with the phrase ’Uma Elo Ghore’ (Durga Maa has come home). He said that the Durga Puja reflects the unity and strength of India, as well as the traditions and culture of Bengal.

Sending virtual greetings to the people of Bengal, the PM appreciated the people for showing great restraint in celebrating Durga Puja amid COVID-19. He urged everyone to wear masks and follow social distancing during celebrations. And his speech was showcased at Siliguri’s Central Colony today.


Some other highlights of the PM’s speech are as follows:
1. Rs 8,500 crore have been approved for Kolkata’s East West Metro
2. West Bengal has to play a significant role in ‘Purvodaya’
3. PM maintained that under PMAY, 30 lakh houses have been built for poor

PM Modi commemorated various eminent personalities from West Bengal and stated that the people from West Bengal are taking India forward. He maintained that through Atmanirbhar Bharat, all initiative will be taken to reach the objective of ‘Sonar Bangla’.
