One killed, two injured in road accident in Siliguri; Police attacked by angry mob, officers wounded

Siliguri, 11th February: Two police officers were injured on Saturday when the cops of the NJP police station were attacked by an angry mob. The incident occurred after a road accident in the area that claimed the life of one and injured two. As per sources, the deceased has been identified as Shiva.


According to the report, a truck crashed into a motorbike this morning in the Michael Madhusudan Colony area near Ambikanagar Bazar. Out of the three youths on the said bike, the rider died on the spot, while two were seriously injured. The injured were rescued and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for treatment. An atmosphere of tension gripped the area after the incident. There was an uproar among the public and the locals set the truck on fire. 

On being notified, a team of cops from the NJP police station reached the spot and tried to control the mob. However, the tension escalated and the cops were attacked by the locals. Stones were pelted at the police personnel. Due to this, the ASI suffered a severe head injury while the SI injured his leg. The ASI was rushed to the Railway Hospital. Following this, a huge police corps reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
