Siliguri, 22nd January: A toto driver was injured in a head-on collision with a lorry laden with cement near Jabrabhita Underpass. The lorry travelling from NJP to Eastern Bypass collided with a scooter and then hit the toto, causing injuries to the driver. After the incident, the injured driver was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital
Meanwhile, the lorry tried to flee away from the spot. However, the locals managed to catch hold of it. Upon receiving the news, the NJP police reached the spot immediately and took the lorry into custody.
According to the locals, the lorry driver was under the influence of alcohol. Due to the manhole cover being open, the one-way vehicle passes through the underpass. They also stated that due to the lack of police surveillance at night, accidents like this are occurring frequently.
