One dead, other injured as wall of a warehouse collapses in Rajganj

Rajganj, 01st August: A woman was killed while the other was seriously injured when a wall of a warehouse collapsed in Anakapalli of Fulbari No. 1 Gram Panchayat. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Meherun Nessa and the injured as 70-year-old Pashmina Khatoon.

As per the report, a part of the wall fell over their house around 11 pm late Friday night. Later, after hearing the screams of the elderly Pashmina Khatoon, the locals rushed to the spot and rescued the duo from the debris.

Upon receiving the news of the incident, the New Jalpaiguri police rushed to the spot and took both the injured to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared Meherun Nessa dead. Currently, the 70-year-old is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the locals alleged that despite asking the owner of the warehouse to repair the wall in the past, the matter was taken very lightly. Reportedly, the locals are very troubled by the incident as there are several other houses near the damaged wall.

On receiving the news this morning, BDO N.C. Sherpa of Rajganj, District-in-Council member Debashish Pramanik, Trinamool Congress Circle President Tapan Singh and Ianul Haque reached the spot.

In this regard, the BDO said that he too had asked the warehouse owner to look into the feeble wall, a few days ago. BDO Sherpa also accused the owner of failing to listen to his advice. He added that a notice will be sent to the owner, today, asking to break down the wall.

District-in-Council member Debashish Pramanik added that the information about the entire incident has been given to the MLA and Tourism Minister of the area. A police complaint will also be lodged at the police station demanding the arrest of the owner.
