Naxalbari, 04th August: Naxalbari Police arrested one person along with a sand-laden tractor while allegedly transporting sand illegally from a river.
According to information, police intercepted a sand-laden tractor on Panighata-Naxalbari State Highway at Budhkaran Jote area of Naxalbari on Tuesday morning.
The driver was arrested after he failed to produce necessary documents related to the sand. Police booked him on charges of alleged illegal sand transportation.
The arrested person has been identified as Sujit Goala, a resident of Jabra area in Naxalbari.
Police sources said that the accused was allegedly carrying sand extracted from Chenga River towards Naxalbari, violating National Green Tribunal guidelines.
The accused was produced before Siliguri court on Tuesday. Police stated that the operation against illegal sand trade will continue.
