Siliguri, 04th December: In a major crackdown, the SOG and Bhakti Nagar police station arrested a man on charges of drug smuggling and recovered 1.3 kilograms of brown sugar, valued at approximately ₹50 lakh in the market.
The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Hari Das Barman, a resident of Kharibari. According to reports, Barman travelled to Siliguri from Kharibari on a bike and reached an area behind a building in Ward No. 43, allegedly to smuggle the contraband.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOG and Bhakti Nagar police conducted a joint operation and detained the suspect for questioning. Upon searching his bag, authorities recovered two packets containing brown sugar weighing around 1.3 kilograms.
The accused has been taken into custody, and the police have initiated further investigations into the case.
