Siliguri, 18th June: Pradhan Nagar Police have arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl from South Ambedkar Colony under Ward No. 01 in Siliguri. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Rehan.
According to reports, the minor had been missing since 03rd June. Family members searched for her at various places but failed to trace her and subsequently lodged a missing complaint at Pradhan Nagar Police Station on 04th June.
Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation. During technical analysis and local inquiries, investigators allegedly found the involvement of Mohammad Rehan, a resident of the same locality.
Police said that a friend of the accused allegedly lured the minor into a relationship and later took her to another state. Acting on the findings of the investigation, police arrested Mohammad Rehan.
The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday. Considering the seriousness of the case, the court remanded him to eight days of police custody.
Police said further interrogation of the accused during the remand period is expected to help trace the absconding youth and the missing minor girl.
