NJP private taxi owners and drivers face difficulties due to COVID-19 pandemic

Siliguri, 24th September: The tourism industry of North Bengal has been severely affected due to the ongoing pandemic. Train service has not yet returned to its normal schedules. As a result, NJP’s private taxi owners and drivers are facing extreme difficulties. The local taxi owners and drivers complained of living under severe crisis and alleged that they have not received any help during such difficult times.


     

The drivers stated that at present, they are facing immense pressure concerning the payment of loans and taxes. They urged the government for the waiver of tax and bank premium.


On the other hand, local Trinamool leader Prasenjit Roy stated that the party had distributed food items among the local taxi drivers during the lockdown period. Besides, Minister Goutam Deb assured them of providing all help so that their families do not face any hardships in the coming days.
