NJP police bust trafficking attempt, cannabis worth Rs 35 lakhs seized in Siliguri

Fulbari, May 26: In a successful operation, the undercover police of NJP police station intercepted a 12-wheeler truck in the Jiaganj area of Fulbari, effectively foiling an attempted trafficking of cannabis. The truck, cunningly modified with a secret chamber, had its main storage space intentionally left empty to evade suspicion.


Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the truck in the early hours of today. During the search, numerous packets of cannabis were found concealed within the secret compartment. The accused individuals, identified as Nitish Kumar and Mohammad Salam, both residents of Bihar, travelling in the truck were immediately arrested. They were allegedly involved in transporting the illicit substances from Agartala in Tripura to Bihar.

Police sources revealed that a significant quantity of cannabis was seized, amounting to 2 quintals (200 kg) and 23 kg, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 35 lakh. Both suspects were produced before the Jalpaiguri court today, while the police are investigating the matter.
