Nine Bangladeshis and one Indian arrested in Siliguri’s Fakdaibari area

Siliguri, 24th April: Ashighar Outpost Police arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, along with one Indian from the Fakdaibari area of Siliguri. The owner of the house where they were residing was arrested on charges of providing shelter to illegal immigrants.


The arrested individuals have been identified as Jatin Chandra Roy (56), Baul Rani (54), Balu Chandra Roy (40), Golapi Rani (30), Jharna Rani (34), Sanjib Roy (19), and Nirmal Majumdar (60).

As per police sources, the group had crossed into India from Bangladesh via Islampur a few months ago. They had been staying in a rented house near the Siliguri Eastern Bypass for the past month.


Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in the area on Wednesday night and apprehended all the individuals. Legal action has been initiated under relevant sections of the illegal entry and passport laws.

All accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Thursday.
