Siliguri, 06th December: Mourning ensued on the premises of Bengal Safari Park after the news of Australian Kangaroo Alexa’s death surfaced on Monday night.
Reportedly, Alexa was ill and as per the sources from D Sherpa, director of Bengal Safari Park, the cause of death has not been ascertained yet and will be known only after the postmortem report. The state forest minister Jyotipriya Mallick said that an investigation will be conducted into Alexa’s death.
It is to be noted, that two kangaroo joeys were rescued from Gajoldoba and Farabari of Baikunthpur Division in Siliguri before being smuggled. After which they were kept in Bengal Safari Park for adding a variety of exotic animals. The two joeys were named Alexa and Xavier of which the former died and the latter is healthy and sound.
