MLA Sikha Chatterjee staged a dharna accusing state government of delaying NOC for Thakur Nagar rail gate flyover

Siliguri, 20th December: On Wednesday, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee sat on a dharna in front of the Thakurnagar railway gate accusing the state government of delaying the NOC for the construction of a flyover at Thakur Nagar railgate.

Reportedly, the Thakur Nagar railway gate has turned into a center for traffic congestion. The citizens undergo hours of stoppage every day and pose a grave concern for the swift movement of ambulances. In response to the prevailing issues, the locals blocked the road several times; however, no solution could be achieved.

In this regard, the Trinamool Congress had also staged sit-ins several times at the said railway gate demanding the construction of a flyover, and a memorandum was also submitted to the office of the ADRM. Finally, as the railways decided to construct a flyover at the Thakur Nagar railgate, the state government allegedly withheld the NOC prompting MLA Sikha Chatterjee to stage a dharna.

The MLA stated the railway gate is causing severe traffic jams. She added that the funds have been allocated for the construction of flyover, and await an NOC by the state government. Furthermore, she stated that the matter was raised in the state assembly, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, Sudha Singh Chatterjee, the Dabgram-Fulbari Trinamool Congress (TMC) block president accused the MLA of politics ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. She added that even the TMC demonstrated regarding the railway gate issue. The TMC leader further stated that the accusation regarding delaying the NOC lacked facts and was unaware of it herself.
