Siliguri, 27th April: In a significant breakthrough, the Khalpara Outpost police have arrested a youth in connection to the minor sexual assault case. The arrested accused has been identified as MD Rohit, a resident of an area under the Khalpara Outpost. Sources revealed that the accused has been arrested from Bihar.
As per police sources, on January 30, a minor was alone in her residence in Adarsha Nagar area. During this, MD Rohit allegedly sexually assaulted the minor. After the incident, a written complaint was lodged by the victim’s family at Khalpara Outpost on January 31.
While investigating the case based on the complaint, the police learned that the accused has absconded. Significantly, acting on a tip-off, the police arrested MD Rohit from Thakurganj in Bihar, in collaboration with Bihar Police, three months after the incident.
On Saturday, the police registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and presented him before the Siliguri court. Currently, the police are engaged in further investigation.
