Migratory birds flock to Fulbari’s Mahananda Barrage 

Rajganj, 28th November: Fulbari’s Mahananda barrage in Rajganj has become a hub for migratory birds every year at this time of the month. With the onset of winter, the arrival of migratory birds has begun in the state. The number of these birds is expected to increase further into winter.


Like other reservoirs of North Bengal, many species of birds have also flocked in the Mahananda River of West Dhantala of Fulbari Barrage adjacent to Siliguri. Locals said that during the winter season mainly migratory birds come from other countries including Mongolia, Tibet, South Africa, and Siberia. Apart from various species of migratory birds including Ruddy Shelduck, and River Lapwing, there is also a variety of Indian species of birds. At the end of winter, they return to their country.
