Matua community march in Siliguri against CM Mamata Banerjee

Siliguri, 04th February: People of the Matua community staged a roadblock in Siliguri accusing CM Mamata Banerjee of slandering the name of the community’s Guru. A massive rally was taken out by the Hatiadanga Thakurnagar branch of the Matua Mahasangha. After this, they blocked the Eastern Bypass Road. 


It is to be noted that on January 31, the Chief Minister held an administrative meeting at Gajol in Malda. While making a statement there, she mistakenly called the names of Guru Harichand Thakur and Guru Chand Thakur as Raghuchand and Goruchand. The people of the Matua community got angry with such remarks made by the Chief Minister. In protest against this, a movement has been started by the All India Matua Mahasangha. Today in Siliguri also the people of the Matua community also joined the movement. 

In this regard, Jalpaiguri District President of All India Matua Mahasangha, Dipankar Bala said that the way the CM of the state had mispronounced the names of Matua community Guru Harichand Thakur and Guru Chand Thakur during the meeting in Gajol, which upset their community and have garnered anger for the same. In protest against it, the Matua community has started a movement today demanding an apology from the CM. He further added that they will launch a bigger movement if Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not apologize by going to Thakurbari.
