Massive fire destroys furniture factory in Siliguri’s Patiram Jote area

Siliguri, 13th May: A massive fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a furniture manufacturing factory in the Anil Nagar area of Patiram Jote near Siliguri, completely gutting the unit. Losses worth crores of rupees are feared in the incident.

According to local sources, residents noticed flames rising from the factory during the early hours and immediately informed the fire department. However, due to the lack of proper road connectivity in the area, fire engines faced significant delays in reaching the spot. Meanwhile, the fire spread rapidly, worsening the situation.

Later, a smaller fire tender managed to reach the location and firefighting operations began. After strenuous efforts, the blaze was finally brought under control, but by then a huge quantity of furniture and other materials stored inside the factory had been destroyed.

The incident caused heavy financial losses. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Police from Matigara police station have started an investigation into the matter.
