Cooch Behar, 04th May: In a bizarre incident, a man was thrashed by the locals of Takagachh Dam crossing area in Cooch Behar and was handed over to the police. The accused, Bhim Sarkar, was allegedly involved in physically assaulting his father-in-law, Tapas Sarkar (60), during a family dispute.
Tapas Sarkar was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Upon receiving the news, Pundibari Police immediately arrived at the scene and initiated a preliminary investigation.
According to locals, Bhim Sarkar had been torturing his wife, Payal Sarkar, since their marriage four years ago. Payal was currently living with her father because of the torture. However, Bhim allegedly continued to harass Payal even at her father’s house.
This morning, while returning from the market, Tapas Sarkar saw Bhim standing near the Takagach Dam area and started verbally abusing him out of anger. Bhim retaliated by attacking his father-in-law with a rod, injuring him severely. The locals who witnessed the incident came to the rescue of Tapas Sarkar and took him to the hospital while the accused Bhim Sarkar was beaten up by the locals and handed over to the Pundibari police.
