Cooch Behar, 26th May: In a shocking incident, a man lost his life after being engaged in a dispute with his nephew over cutting down betel nut tree. The incident surfaced from the Gosairhat Gram Panchayat area under Sitalkuchi block of Cooch Behar. The deceased has been identified as Abed Ali Miya, while the accused as his nephew Sirajul Miya.
According to reports, following the dispute over cutting the said tree in the backyard of their house, Sirajul allegedly attacked his uncle, Abed, with a sharp weapon and injured him severely. Upon witnessing the incident, the locals rushed to rescue and took the injured to Mathabhanga Sub divisional Hospital, where the doctors declared him as brought dead.
Meanwhile, Sitalkuchi police arrived at the spot after being informed about the incident. Police took the accused nephew into custody while initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.
