Man hailing from Siliguri locked up in foreign prison, family appeals for help

Siliguri, 27th August: A man hailing from Siliguri is imprisoned in a Luwanda prison. His family, during a press conference in Siliguri on Saturday, alleged that after constant appeals for help to various administrative offices, no action is been taken. The wife Abha Srivastava is wandering from door to door for her husband’s return.

Reportedly, Ajit Srivastava, a resident of Salbari in Siliguri, used to work in production and maintenance in a Nigerian company in South Africa since 2019. He has a wife, a daughter, and elderly parents at home. He was about to leave the said company recently and join another company. He was also planning to return home in June, but suddenly the family stopped hearing from Ajit. After which, the family learned about his arrest. He is accused of foul play of Indian currency and is currently imprisoned in Luwanda’s jail. However, the family alleges that Ajit has been deliberately implicated.

On Saturday, Ajit’s wife Abha Srivastava, while holding a press conference, said that her husband was working as a production manager under a company in Angola, South Africa since November 2019. He had decided to quit his job and pursue other work, but the company did not want that. Because of this he was implicated in a false case and imprisoned. She said that after this she approached the Ministry of External Affairs on this matter. The information has also been given to the Prime Minister’s Office through an email. She further alleged that as of now, no help is being received from the administration regarding this matter.
