Siliguri, 05th July: A young man lost his life after being hit by a train while attempting to cross railway tracks beneath the overbridge near Siliguri Junction Railway Station on Sunday. The deceased has not yet been identified.
The incident triggered panic in the area, with a large crowd gathering at the railway tracks after news of the accident spread. Onlookers were left shocked by the tragic scene.
After receiving information, personnel from the Siliguri Junction Government Railway Police (GRP) reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
According to local sources, the victim was crossing the railway tracks on Sunday afternoon when he was hit by an approaching train, leading to his death on the spot.
The GRP said the accident occurred while the Kamakhya–Puri Weekly Express (Train No. 15622) was passing through Siliguri Junction Railway Station.
Locals suspect the deceased may have been a resident of the Junction area, but his identity is yet to be established. The GRP has launched an investigation and is making efforts to identify the deceased.
