Cooch Behar, 11th August: In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the region, a man identified as Abu Bakkar Siddiqui (30) took the life of his father, Tufsul Hussain (45), before committing suicide himself in the Kuchlibari area of Mekliganj, Cooch Behar district. The father-son duo, originally hailing from Suktabari in Cooch Behar, had relocated to the area to engage in a local school construction work, accompanied by another individual.
According to reports, in the early hours of Friday, Abu allegedly killed his father and subsequently ended his own life by hanging himself from a noose on the veranda of the school. Prompted by the incident, Abu’s companion alerted the local residents, who rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of Abu hanging and another body of Tufsul Hussain soaked in blood inside the school premises.
Upon being informed, officers from Kuchlibari Police Station swiftly arrived at the site, securing the bodies and arranging for their transfer to undergo post-mortem examinations. Shyamapada Adhikari, a local resident, recounted that a distressed young man had arrived at his house in the morning, having entered through a school window, to share the unsettling details of the events. Presently, the police are diligently conducting an extensive investigation into the incident to ascertain the underlying factors and circumstances.
