Siliguri, 11th December: An individual was arrested by the police on charges of stealing a mobile phone. The incident occurred amidst the tense atmosphere that prevailed during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) protest at Hashmi Chowk (Venus More) in Siliguri.
According to reports, a young man was among the large crowd intending to snatch a mobile phone from a woman’s bag. However, the Winners Squad spotted the thief indulging in the activity and was apprehended. Subsequently, the accused was handed over to Siliguri police.
Following the apprehension, the young man claimed that the mobile phone had in fact fallen from the woman’s bag and he went forward to pick up the phone. Meanwhile, dismissing the appeals for release, the youth was detained and taken to Siliguri police station.
