Siliguri, 29th April: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, along with plainclothes personnel from Matigara police station, busted a fake currency racket and arrested a man from Sikkim.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, a joint operation was conducted in the Himachal Vihar area, where a suspicious individual was detained and searched. During the search, 250 pieces of fake ₹200 notes were recovered from his possession, amounting to a total of ₹50,000.
The accused has been identified as Shivaji Gupta, a resident of Jorethang in Sikkim. Preliminary investigation revealed that he had arrived in Siliguri with the intention of circulating the fake notes in the area.
A case has been registered against the accused at Matigara police station under charges of fake currency trafficking. Police are set to produce him in court and seek remand for further interrogation.
Officials stated that efforts are underway to trace other members of the racket and uncover the entire network involved.
