Naxalbari, 22nd March: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) and Naxalbari police station conducted a joint operation and recovered a substantial quantity of brown sugar. Significantly, an individual has been arrested in connection to the case. The arrested accused has been identified as Matlu Sheikh, a resident of Kaliachak in Malda district.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off, the STF and Naxalbari police apprehended the suspected individual on Asian Highway 2 in Satbhaiya area of Naxalbari. Upon initiating a search, 1 Kg of brown sugar was recovered from his possession.
According to police sources, the accused had arrived in Naxalbari from Kaliachak to sell the brown sugar. The estimated market value of the intoxicated substances is approximately Rs 1 crore.
On Saturday, the accused will be produced before Siliguri Sub-divisional Court. Currently, the Naxalbari police are engaged in further investigation.
