Man arrested in Siliguri for extorting money by posing as a policeman

Siliguri, 30th January: The police of Panitanki Out Post arrested a man from Siliguri’s Bidhan Market area on the charge of extorting money by posing as a policeman. 


Reportedly, two men, introducing themselves as police, caught a person and accused the person of carrying drugs in his bag. After this, the man took Rs 50,000 from the alleged accused person, but while escaping with the money, one of them was caught. After catching the man, the police were informed about it. 

As soon as the news was received, the police of Panitanki Out Post reached the spot and arrested the man, and took him to the station. The police are interrogating him and looking for his accomplice. Bapi Saha, secretary of Bidhan Market Babsayi Samiti, said that the said man had carried out such incidents in the past as well. The said people roam around in the Bidhan Market posing as policemen to scare people. According to police sources, the accused had faced similar allegations in the past as well.
