Siliguri, 24th August: The NJP police arrested Shankar Sarkar on the charge of attempting to rape a teenager. The incident surfaced from the Porajhar area in Siliguri. The victim and the accused are residents of the aforementioned area.
According to sources, Sarkar attempted to rape the girl when she was home alone, this morning. Luckily, the teen somehow managed to escape and ran towards her relative’s house nearby.
As soon as the matter came to light, the locals detained Sarkar and immediately informed the NJP police. And handed over the accused to the police after their arrivals.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that Shankar Sarkar, who also known as a ‘land mafia’, uses his influence in the area to carry out various crafty activities. Due to this, the girl and her family are in a state of panic and worrying about their safety.
A written complaint has been lodged at the police station against Shankar Sarkar on behalf of the teenager’s family.
