Siliguri, 01st August: Ashighar Outpost Police arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing a minor girl using objectionable photos and videos. The arrested accused has been identified as Aditya Roy, a resident of Ward No. 36 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
According to police sources, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act based on a complaint filed by the minor’s brother.
The accused allegedly lured the minor and recorded her photos and videos around two months ago. He later threatened to circulate the content online and allegedly continued to blackmail her.
Police said the minor girl was under severe mental stress due to the alleged harassment and had also attempted suicide.
The accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri Court on Saturday. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
