Lockdown in Bengal: Strict action to be taken against disobeyers

Siliguri, 23rd March: The State Government has taken a vital decision in West Bengal to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. A lockdown has been announced from March 23 at 4 pm to March 27.


All shops, commercial establishments, offices and factories, workshops, godowns, and emergency services have been shut down during this period. In a statement issued by the Principal Secretary of the State, Vivek Kumar, the decision was taken to maintain a distance among the people to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The rule will be fully implemented in urban and rural areas.

The people, who have recently returned from abroad, have been instructed to comply with all government-issued health stipulations and to keep themselves under home quarantine.


Any congregation of more than 7 people has been prohibited in the public areas during this period.

The State Government has ordered all the officials concerned to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by them. Strict action, under Article 188 of the Indian Penal Code, will be taken against any person who does not comply with the order.
