Locals stage protest in Siliguri Ward No. 10 over ration supply amid lockdown

Siliguri, 02nd May: Allegations of corruption have surfaced against various ration shop owners, who are being accused of hoarding commodities and then selling them in the black market.

Several customers, on Saturday, accused the Ward No. 10 ration dealer of corruption and also exposed the huge scam being carried out in ration supply. Condemning the shortage of essential commodities, the consumers staged a protest and complained that ration was given to them in fewer quantities ignoring the government instructions. Upon receiving the news, the Panitanki Outpost police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Sagar Sarkar, a resident of Mahakal Pally area, alleged that despite having a BPL card, he is constantly being deprived of ration and further complained that the dealer often misbehaves and does not respond to his queries.

In this context, TMC leader Manoj Verma stated that the ration dealers must inform all the customers regarding every detail of ration supply amid pandemic. He further added that arrangements should be made soon to rectify the ration cards to help people avoid facing harassment in the future.
