Siliguri, 17th December: Angry residents of Ward No. 18 protested by gheraoing the councillor and alleged him of using substandard quality goods. Reportedly, a new culvert was constructed in the Ranabasti area but a part of it broke today during traffic after which the locals and residents protested surrounding the councillor.
It alleged that as soon as the movement of vehicles started to ply on the newly constructed culvert, a part of the road broke in front of it. At the same time, Ward Councilor Sanjay Sharma reached the spot as soon as the news of the incident was received. On reaching the area, the locals surrounded him and protested. Later Siliguri police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
In this regard, Councilor Sanjay Sharma said that the work on the said culvert has not been completed yet. A portion of the road leading up to the culvert has collapsed and the workers will come on Monday. Repair work will be started again after inspecting the entire area.
