Siliguri, 05th August: Pradhan Nagar Police raided a lodge near Siliguri Junction and seized liquor worth lakhs of rupees that was allegedly being stored before being smuggled to Bihar. A youth from Saharsa district of Bihar, identified as Bhaskar Kumar, was arrested in connection with the case.
According to police, the accused had arrived in Siliguri from Bihar and was preparing to transport a large quantity of liquor back to the state. To facilitate the operation, he rented a room at a lodge near Siliguri Junction, where he was staying with the consignment.
Based on specific information, a team from Pradhan Nagar Police Station conducted a raid at the lodge on Tuesday night. During the operation, Bhaskar Kumar was detained from his room. A search of his two trolley bags led to the recovery of a large quantity of liquor.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that he was planning to transport the seized liquor to Bihar. He was subsequently arrested. Police said the market value of the seized liquor is estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees.
The accused will be produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday. Further investigation is underway.
