Siliguri, 19th April: Plainclothes officers of Matigara Police Station have successfully foiled liquor smuggling plot to Bihar and arrested a youth.
The arrested individual has been identified as Honey Raj (20), reportedly a resident of Bihar.
Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, Matigara police launched a special operation. During the operation, officers spotted an e-rickshaw parked in a deserted spot near the Traffic ADCP’s office in Chandmuni. Growing suspicious, they conducted a search of a passenger seated inside along with his luggage.
During the search, police recovered multiple bottles of foreign liquor concealed inside four bags in the suspect’s possession.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused had procured the liquor from Sikkim and planned to transport it to Bihar.
As the individual failed to produce valid documents for the consignment, police arrested him on charges of liquor smuggling and seized the vehicle. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri court on Sunday.
Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the case to uncover further links in the smuggling network.
