Laboratory testing for COVID-19 to be launched at NBMCH

Siliguri, 12th March: An atmosphere of fear is being witnessed all over the world regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Therefore, the state government is all set to open a laboratory at North Bengal Medical College-Hospital for COVID-19 testing. Besides, an isolation ward has also been set up at the hospital for suspected patients.


As per the reports, if a person develops symptoms of the virus in North Bengal, he/she will be treated at NBMCH. The isolation Ward of NBMCH consists of an AC room along with 6 filter beds. Besides, a special nodal team has been created along with three people – an assistant superintendent, a doctor and a DNS.

Earlier, a suspected patient’s nasopharyngeal swab and blood samples used to be sent to Kolkata’s laboratory for examination. However, the tests can now be conducted at NBMCH itself.
