Siliguri, 03rd December: The incident of Ward No. 42 of Siliguri has caused quite a stir in the political realms as well. The incident has raised many questions from the opposition against the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Blames have been garnered by the SMC for not forming a monitoring committee for the said incident.
Today, the BJP leader and councillor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation Amit Jain inspected the accident site. During this, Amit Jain expressed his anguish and described the incident as tragic, and took a jibe against the SMC. He said that multi-story buildings and apartments are constructed in Siliguri, but the workers’ lives are always put at stake as they are hardly equipped with any safety gear. He further said that the promoters are only looking for profit and the incident of Rai Colony of Ward No. 42 has proved it.
He said that if the monitoring committee of Siliguri Municipal Corporation had been formed earlier, the incident would not have happened. At the same time, he has warned to launch a massive agitation against the board if they fail to take strict action against the promoter of the said building within 48 hours and also asked to ensure safety of workers in such construction works.
