Kamtapur State Demand Council announces new name and organisational restructuring at press conference in Siliguri

Siliguri, 01st June: The Kamtapur State Demand Council has officially announced a change in its organisational name to Kamtapur State Demand Council (Democratic), during a press conference held on Monday at the Siliguri Journalists’ Club.

Members of the organisation also informed that a new central executive committee has been formed, along with the allocation of responsibilities across various posts. The structure for new membership was also unveiled during the briefing.

Leaders of the organisation reiterated that their demand for a separate Kamtapur state will continue in the future. They also clarified their position on the Kamtapur language movement, alleging attempts to recognise it solely as the “Rajbanshi language”.

The organisation claimed that it has long been fighting for the constitutional rights, development, and recognition of the Koch-Rajbanshi and Kamtapuri communities.

They emphasised that the movement will continue within a democratic framework while strengthening organisational structure and planning for future activities.

The leaders further highlighted plans to make the organisation stronger through democratic processes and renewed organisational strategies.
