Interstate buses from Siliguri Junction to be shifted to Paribahan Nagar as officials inspect new terminal

Siliguri, 01st June: In a major step aimed at easing the long-standing traffic congestion in the city, the administration is preparing to shift interstate buses operating from Siliguri Junction Bus Stand to the upcoming Paribahan Nagar Bus Terminal.

The move will relocate buses operating on routes to Bihar, Kolkata and other states from Siliguri Junction to Paribahan Nagar once the new terminal becomes fully operational.

On Monday, senior officials including Traffic DCP Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, the SDO and SJE engineers inspected the Paribahan Nagar Bus Terminal and reviewed ongoing construction work.

During the inspection, officials assessed passenger amenities and security arrangements and issued necessary instructions to concerned departments for further improvements.

The Traffic DCP stated that within the next few months, operations of interstate buses from Siliguri Junction will be completely shifted to Paribahan Nagar. Plans are also in place to set up a permanent police outpost at the new bus terminal to ensure passenger safety and better law enforcement.

The project will further include high mast lighting, drinking water facilities, toilets, waiting areas, improved roads and amenities for drivers and staff, with tenders expected to be floated soon.

Local MLA Shankar Ghosh had earlier held discussions with police and administrative officials regarding decongestion measures, during which the relocation plan was agreed upon.

Authorities believe the project, once completed, will significantly reduce traffic congestion in Siliguri and streamline interstate bus operations.
