Alipurduar, 14th November: In a tragic incident, an Indian Army Jawan Ranu Magar (33), a resident of Dalsingpara Gopal Bahadur Basti of Kalchini block, was martyred in a horrifying snowstorm in Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir. He was serving the nation as a Nayak in the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army.
According to family sources, on the afternoon of November 11, Martyr Ranu Magar was on duty in Kargil. During this, tragedy befell as he was hit by a terrible snowstorm. Consequently, his body was buried in the snow. Subsequently, on November 12, afternoon, the family received the news of the incident.
Martyr Ranu Magar was survived by his father, mother, brother, his wife, and his two children. The family revealed that Ranu Magar was supposed to come home on November 16 to attend his brother’s wedding which was to take place on December 4.
On Tuesday, the martyred jawan’s mortal remains were brought back to his native place which led to an atmosphere of mourning in the area. Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik, Kalchini MLA Vishal Lama, Zilla Parishad member Ganga Prasad Sharma, and Kalchini BDO were present to pay homage to the martyr. In addition, a large crowd gather to get a last glimpse of the soldier. Later, the mortal remains were brought to Dalsingpara Torsha River Ghat of Kalchini block and was cremated with full state honours.
