Illegal construction demolished in Siliguri’s Ward No. 46

Siliguri, 22nd May: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has once again intensified its drive against illegal constructions. On Friday morning, a civic team reached the Pokai Jote area under Ward No. 46 and demolished a two-storey illegal structure in the presence of police.

According to officials, the house owner had obtained approval for a two-storey building, but additional construction was carried out beyond the sanctioned plan. Following complaints from local residents, the municipal body conducted an inspection and declared the extra structure illegal. A notice had been served earlier, but no corrective action was taken, prompting the demolition drive.

The house owner, however, alleged that the action was politically motivated and claimed he was being targeted for being a supporter of the BJP. He also alleged that the demolition was carried out without proper notice.

On the other hand, BJP leader Dinesh Singh stated that while they are against illegal construction, the owner should have been given some time before the action was taken.

Despite the objections, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation proceeded with the operation and completely demolished the unauthorised construction.
