‘Illegal collection’ allegations surface at Mahabirsthan flower market in Siliguri, BJP demands action

Siliguri, 11th May: Allegations of ‘illegal collection’ at the Mahabirsthan flower market in Siliguri have created a stir in the area. It has been alleged that flower traders, who have been doing business in the market for years after coming from distant places, are being forced to pay huge sums of money. A section of traders claimed that those who fail to pay are not allowed to set up their shops in the market.

According to sources, these small traders earn their livelihood by selling flowers and other puja materials. In such a situation, pressure to pay extra money has become a major concern for them.

Following the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers reached the spot. They spoke to the traders, gathered details about the matter and also collected the names of the accused persons.

BJP leaders said that a written complaint would soon be lodged at the police station and that no form of ‘illegal collection’ in the market would be tolerated. They also assured support to the traders.
