Siliguri, 20th August: 20-year-old Lalita Poddar (aka Maman)was found dead at her in-laws’ house in Siliguri. While her family members accused the in-laws of murdering Lalita, her husband went missing.
However, after 4 days from the incident, Police arrested Ram Prasad Poddar, the absconding husband, under the charge of murder of his wife on Wednesday evening. Ram Prasad was produced in the Jalpaiguri court today.
Meanwhile, the investigation took a new turn when the ex-lover of Lalita was found hanging from the noose on Wednesday morning.
But as of now, the police are trying to find out the reason behind the death of Lalita and is thoroughly interrogating Ram Prasad. If required, he will be taken into police custody after being produced in the court.
It is to recall, on August 16, the sensational incident surfaced from the Majhabari area East of Dabgram No. 2 Zone. As per the allegation, Lalita returned to her in-laws’ house from her parents’ on Saturday (August 15) evening. But the following morning, her family members were informed that she was dead. Lalita’s father alleged that his daughter was murdered. After the incident, the family of the deceased ransacked her in-laws’ house.
The Bhaktinagar police and Ashighar Outpost police reached the spot and took three members of the Lalita’s in-laws into custody. While Ram Prasad went missing.
