Huge quantity of snake venom recovered before illegal trade in Phansidewa, three arrested

Phansidewa, 28th February: In a significant breakthrough, the officials have successfully busted an attempt at snake venom trafficking and arrested three in connection to the case. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Shahnawaz, Tauheed Alam, and Mohammad Ajmal, all residents of Islampur in Uttar Dinajpur.


Reportedly, on Tuesday, acting on a tip-off, the Bagdogra Forest Department of the Kurseong Division in collaboration with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau in Phansidewa seized a four-wheeler and a scooty at the Mahananda Bridge in Muraliganj of Bidhannagar. During the search, the officials recovered about 3.798 kilograms of snake venom contained in two glass jars and wrapped in a Bangladeshi newspaper.

Subsequently, the accused traffickers were arrested and produced before the Siliguri Divisional Court on Wednesday. In this regard, Bagdogra Forest Ranger mentioned that the snake venom was concealed in two glass jars and was transported from Bangladesh for its clandestine disposal.
