Siliguri, 30th May: A statewide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme aimed at preventing cervical cancer among women has been launched across the country and has now been introduced in West Bengal as well.
The programme was inaugurated by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and will be implemented across multiple hospitals and health centres in the state.
In Siliguri, the vaccination drive has also begun at the Siliguri District Hospital from Saturday. Under the programme, 14-year-old adolescent girls will be administered the HPV vaccine.
MLA Shankar Ghosh visited the Siliguri District Hospital on the occasion of the launch of the vaccination drive. He handed over vaccination certificates to several girls and also urged eligible adolescents to come forward and take the vaccine.
Health officials stated that the initiative aims to reduce the risk of cervical cancer in women through early immunisation.
