Jalpaiguri, 05th July: Several areas of Jalpaiguri have been severely affected due to heavy rainfall, with water levels of the Teesta and Karala Rivers rising. Several families have been left stranded due to waterlogging in different parts of the district.
According to the weather department, Jalpaiguri recorded 165.60 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall recorded in the district during the current monsoon season.
Following the heavy rain, water levels of the Teesta and Karala Rivers are rising rapidly. The administration is monitoring the situation closely.
Several areas in Jalpaiguri town and adjoining regions have been affected by waterlogging, disrupting normal life. Residents are facing difficulties as roads and residential areas remain submerged.
The worst situation has been reported from Garalbari Chandandanga and Camper Hat areas near the Bangladesh border under Sadar block, where around two hundred families have been affected by waterlogging.
Residents alleged that the situation worsens every monsoon due to the lack of proper drainage facilities in the area. They claimed that garbage accumulation in the hume pipes installed for border area connectivity has blocked water flow, further worsening the situation.
