Havoc of elephants in Gajoldoba ruins several acres of crops

Rajganj, 23rd March: The farmers in Maharajghat area of Gajoldoba are paying grave prices due to continuous elephant attacks. On Wednesday night too, the tuskers created a ruckus in the said area. A herd of 15-20 elephants ruined crops grown of chillies, bitter gourd, and many more on several acres of land. 


It is to be noted that the terror is not just limited to crops, a few days ago a Madhyamik candidate of Maharajghat was also killed in an elephant attack. Bishnu Das, the father of the deceased student, had cultivated vegetables on his land, which the herd of elephants also destroyed. 

In this regard, Bishnu Das stated that the elephants destroyed the entire crop he had cultivated after spending about Rs 80,000. With the loss of his son and now his source of income, he added that he cannot comprehend what to do further. On the other hand, other farmers of the area stated that the herd of elephants damaged several acres of crops incurring a loss of lakhs of rupees. The locals have demanded more patrolling by the forest department in the area.
