Gurung Basty ration dealer accused of corruption, locals stage protest

Siliguri, 16th May: Allegations of corruption have surfaced against various ration dealers, who are being accused of hoarding commodities and then selling them in the black market.

Another such news surfaced on Saturday after several customers accused Ward No. 3 Gurung Basty No. 4 ration dealer Madan Shah of corruption and also exposed the huge scam being carried out in ration supply.

Condemning the shortage of essential commodities, Bapi Dey, a local, complained that food grains were given to him in fewer quantities ignoring the government instructions. Upon protesting against the incident, he was beaten up by the ration dealer’s son as well as the other shop employees.

Following this, Dey, along with the other residents of the area staged a protest accusing Shah of corruption and also lodged a complaint at the Pradhan Nagar Police station.

In this context, Madan Shah denied all the allegations and further blamed Dey for demanding extra ration amid the lockdown. He further claimed that Dey had also physically attacked his son Amit Shah in the course of the argument.

Upon receiving the news, the police reached the spot and are investigating the matter.
