GTA Chairman receives several stranded passengers at NJP station

Siliguri, 26th May: Several people from West Bengal are stranded across the country ever since the nation-wide lockdown was imposed. In view of this, several Shramik Special Trains have been arranged on behalf of the State Government to bring them back to the state.

Upon learning that a Shramik Special train carrying several people from the Darjeeling Hills will reach NJP station today, GTA chairman Anit Thapa, on Tuesday morning, visited the station and greeted them. In this context, Thapa stated that all of the passengers will undergo a health check-up once they reach the hills following which decisions will be taken regarding whether to keep them in a quarantine center or in home quarantine.

On the other hand, the travelers stated they finally reached their destination after going through various challenges. They complained of poor train service and stated that no proper food and water facility was available during the journey. They further alleged that few unknown people threw stones at the train as soon as it reached Bihar.

Following this, they then set off for their homes with the assistance of GTA.
